WGCU is a full service television station in Fort Myers, Florida, broadcasting on local digital UHF channel 31 and virtual channel 30 to the Fort Myers/Naples, Florida area. Founded in 1983 as WSFP-TV, it is owned by Florida Gulf Coast University and branded as WGCU TV 3. WGCU is a member station of PBS (Public Broadcasting Service). In addition to its PBS programming, WGCU airs locally produced programs with information concerning local interest, culture, history and education. WGCU is a multiplexed channel, with four subchannels. WGCU TV 3 and PBS programming is carried on 30.1; on 30.2 is PBS World, with news and information; 30.3 carries Create, with how-to programs and information, and PBS Encore, with replays of current PBS shows, and on 30.4 is the Florida Channel, with shows about local people, places, culture and history.
